Support

Volunteers hand out lunches, taking extra precautions because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

“It makes me realize that there is a much bigger world out there than what I’m personally in contact with on a day-to-day basis.”

Volunteer

There are several important ways you can support the work of the Free Lunch Program:

Donations

ICFLP is a 501(c)(3) organization, and as a small, highly focused program we are able to put your gifts to immediate, tangible use. A little goes a long way!

For example:

  • $5 provides disposable, compostable silverware for one day
  • $15 provides coffee for one week
  • $25 provides milk or juice for one day’s lunch
  • $50 buys 1,000 pounds of food from the HACAP regional food bank

The easiest way to support us is to create a recurring donation directly through your bank account. To learn more about this option and set up a recurring gift, send us an email at icfreelunch@gmail.com.

You can also donate online using a credit card via PayPal. You can choose to support us with a one-time donation or keep the generosity flowing with a recurring payment at this link:

Alternately, you may send a check to the Free Lunch Program at 1105 S. Gilbert Ct. Suite 100, Iowa City, IA 52240.

You can also make a gift to the “Free Lunch Program (Mary Palmberg) Endowment Fund” through the Community Foundation of Johnson County at
www.communityfoundationofjohnsoncounty.org.

Finally, you can shop Amazon Smile at this link. From there, Amazon will automatically donate 0.5% of eligible purchases you make on the Amazon Smile website with no additional cost to you.

Food

Our food needs change regularly, so please email our kitchen manager to ask about our most urgent needs to keep our pantry stocked.

Service

Volunteers help make Free Lunch possible and serve in any number of roles:

  • Help a serving team
  • Clean part of the kitchen
  • Work on a food drive
  • Come have lunch and visit with the guests

To learn more, email our volunteer coordinator.

Join Our Board

Free Lunch relies on the leadership of our Board, a governing body made up of various members of the community. There will be be five to seven board members cycling off in this coming year and we’re looking for diverse, service-oriented people to fill those roles. If you or someone you know might have an interest in serving as a Free Lunch Program board member, please email us at icfreelunch@gmail.com.
